Job seeking process

Seeking employment is a long and complex process, so it is important to prepare properly for it: job seeking

Step 1. Making the decision

Potential employment seekers must keep in mind that applying for a position does not imply changing the job as yet. The real decision comes when the position is offered to somebody, but until then it is just an expression of interest.

Step 2. Seeking positions
> The most obvious and perhaps easy way to find a job is through personal contacts with family and friends who might occupy jobs similar to those you might want.
> Another way is to apply for career openings advertised in the news papers, e.g. HVG and Figyelő. Recent graduates might also find openings in Metro, Expressz and Pesti Est.
> It is also advisable for young graduates to visit job fairs offered by colleges and universities.
> The internet provides another source of job openings. There are two types of sites available: the 'Job sites' provide you with a list of job offers and most have a database were you may post your application together with a Curriculum Vitae and the 'Personnel Consulting firms' (E.g. HILL International)

Step 3. Sending the application
> Most job vacancy advertisements specify what needs to be sent to the company. However some do not. In this case it will be most appropriate to send a detailed Curriculum Vitae in Hungarian and in foreign languages. The cover letter can be written into the e-mail; it does not have to be an extra attachment.

Step 4. The Curriculum Vitae
> The curriculum Vitae is the most important part of the application, since it contains the first information that the company receives about you. No CV can ever tell an employer enough about who you are and what you are capable of doing. It is important to keep in mind that an interview usually follows the initial application. The main aim of the curriculum Vitae should be to reach the interview stage of the process. More details on page Resumes, interviews.
Step 5. The interview
> The first meeting you will have with your potential employer is of utmost importance. The interview will determine whether you are accepted for the job or not. While the main aim of the CV is to present proven facts about yourself, the interview serves as an assessment of your appearance, communication skills and personal opinions. More details on page Resumes, interviews.
Step 6. Further interviews
> The second and third interviews are usually offered to a small number of candidates, those who the employers consider to be the best. The second interview will require more detail regarding the position in question as well as a more thorough understanding of your competence for the job. The interviewer will usually provide the candidate with more details about the position she/he is required to fill and the prospective place of work is usually shown, or maybe a sample-task will be given.
Step 7. Other selecting methods
> The most current are psychometric analyses
> Assesment Center (AC)
